It is difficult to say for sure where punch came to us, but it is known for certain that the British brought this secret to the world at the end of the 17th century from Jamaica, which before that was part of the Spanish Empire. But the name appeals to Indian roots: translated from Hindi, the word paantsch means “five”, and the drink in the original recipe consists of exactly five components: rum, sugar, lemon juice, hot water and tea, it is even possible that punch is a relative of tea masala!
Now the drink does not have a strictly regulated recipe, but is prepared hot or cold.
