Tabasco sauce is popular as one of the hottest sauces in the world. The recipe for the classic sauce was developed at the end of the 19th century in Louisiana by Edmund McIlenny.
To produce Tabasco sauce, the main ingredient is Tabasco pepper. Depending on the ripeness of the pepper fruits used to prepare this sauce, different degrees of hotness of the finished product are obtained. Classic Tabasco sauce is made from Tabasco peppers, salt and white vinegar. During preparation, the pepper puree mixed with salt is aged for three years in white oak barrels.
